THANK YOU. All of us at Diamond in the Ruff Rescue would like to thank all of you who helped in our fundraising campaign and to The Journal for making the public aware of our need.

We were overwhelmed by the letters of encouragement, support, and love from our community. Many people realized that having a no kill organization in their area reduces both local and national euthanasia rates and encouraged us to continue to move forward. Many asked us to do even more for our area, including expanding operations. We have considered those requests and have agreed, knowing that growth will increase revenue for our community, create jobs and give homeless animals a safe haven. While there are many positive benefits to expanding, there will also be challenges. We know we can meet those challenges with continued support of our community.

In order to expand we will need to restructure our existing program. There will be several facets to the restructure process that will develop over time but for now we have listed three immediate changes.

1. Accepting new board members. New members will bring fresh ideas and new perspectives to the table, enable growth, develop specialization of board positions, and enable the organization to secure a public location. While we have already accepted new members, we still have room for more positive, assertive people who are committed to improving their community.

2. While we will be moving as quickly as possible to establish a public location, we understand that this goal will take time, time some animals do not have. Therefore, step two will include expanding our foster home program. These foster homes will give homeless pets a temporary place to stay and prevent them from going to places where they might be destroyed.

3. Expanding our volunteer program. We have always valued our volunteers and know they are essential members of our program. The restructuring program will create new positions for volunteers, from administrative to labor positions.  There are many people within our community who possess skills that can assist our organization and we greatly encourage those individuals to contact us.

Mahatma Gandhi once said, “The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated.”
What will be said of us?
